Haunted Houses!

Last night was a fun night! First, I went with a few friends to the Dana Thomas House. It is a Frank Lloyd Wright home that is right here in Springfield! It is amazing! One amazing thing that they were doing last night was a haunted tour of the home! It is said that Susan Dana and her cousin that lived with her haunt that house! So the staff were ghost stories and their experiences in the house that could be Susan Dana. Also they say that the basement is haunted by a negative energy. It was weird because right when me and my friend went into the basement, we both got headaches and felt sick to our stomach. The basement is where the most unexplained things happen!
Regardless if it is haunted or not, it is an AMAZING house, and would be awesome to see anytime of the day! I highly recommend that everyone check it out!
After the Dana Thomas house we made our way to Auburn, which is about 15 minutes from UIS. They have two haunted houses in Auburn right next to each other! We went in both, and also had dinner at El Rancheritos while waiting for our number to be called for one of the houses. It was by far an awesome night! The Auburn Haunted Houses were amazing! They did a great job, and we were all scared! Well see you later!

Tonight I went to an amazing production of Rocky Horror Picture Show! My friend played a part in it and the show was amazing! It was hosted at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and it was amazing! The cast and crew did an amazing job and it was complete with audience participation! They sold kits that had all the items that we would need to participate! It was so much fun! If you come to Springfield and get the chance, definitely visit the Hoogland Center for the Arts on 6th street. It is an amazing thing that Springfield has been blessed with and we should appreciate it! Have a good night!

Apply for Grad Schools!

Ahhhh!!! I am 7 months from graduating and I have no idea what I am doing with my life! School is all I know so as of right now I am applying to Graduate Schools! I want to start working but the world is a big scary place and I am not sure what to do! My dad keeps telling me not to worry, but how do you not worry about this!? I think that I will still look for a real job when I graduate but have graduate school already set up, so that if I do not find a real job, I do not have to worry about my loans being due right away! Human Services is the degree that I am looking at for UIS, since we do not offer a criminal justice master’s degree here! So wish me luck I am applying today. Also, I made an appointment at the Career Development office today to talk to a counselor about careers! I am lucky that UIS has an office full of people that can help me figure out what I will be best at! Hopefully I will have some good news for you soon!

Family <3

Today was a tough day. Today was my grandpa’s second birthday in heaven. I was especially close to my grandpa, since I lived with him and my grandma since I was 15. He was my hero and saviour! He was always there to help me out of a jam, but always made sure I learned my lesson. He dealt with me during my teenage years and still loved me. Losing a loved one is hard, especially when you are close. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him and not a day goes by that it doesn’t still hurt that he is gone. I know that he is still looking out for me, and that I am making him proud. He loved that I got good grades, so at the end of every semester I take the time to show him my grades. I miss my grandpa more than anything, but I know that he is proud, and that he is celebrating his birthday with us, even though he is not here.

Crazy Weather

I didnt take this pic but it is cool looking!

One thing Illinois is notorious for is the crazy weather! Today was absolutely beautiful. High 70s, a breeze, the sun was out, AMAZING for it being a week from November! Tonight it was still gorgeous out, but a huge storm hit at about 8:40 that sent people running. Lightning, Thunder (which I love) and lots of lots of rain! It was raining so hard that I could not see 3 feet in front of me driving! For me it was awesome because I love severe weather but a lot of people hate storms so it could be a bad thing! Regardless, Illinois has some crazy weather. One year we had a heat wave in February, followed by a snow storm the next week, and then a week later had tornados. I love this state just because of the severe weather, and even though they call Chicago the windy city, I would have to argue that Springfield is much windier due to us being surrounded by corn fields and not buildings!

School Spirit at the counseling center

image

Walking around campus, I came across this door with all these decorations on it. It was the counseling center and their door decorations from homecoming week. It was an absolutely awesome looking door, and I just wanted to show everyone! The counseling center is located in the human resources building on the east side of campus. They offer free counseling to students and also have a lot of fun events that they hold on campus! They are an amazing resource to students and everyone should take advantage. Counseling in the real world will cost you about $100 a session, but these counselors are completely free to you and you can go get help with whatever is troubling you. Even if you just need someone to talk to that is an outside source from your problem! They are amazing so go check them out!

Wear purple day!!

Today was wear purple day! It was a group event created on facebook. It asked everyone to wear purple today in rememberance of the six gay men who committed suicide after being bullied for being gay. I believe in gay rights and I am an ally and it hurts me that people in this day in age are still not getting full rights. Everyone needs to get up with me and stand up for gay rights! We should not have any young men who havent even started their lives yet killing themselves due to being bullied about being gay! I hope one day when I am still living that I see more tolerance, but we have a long way to go. However, on a brighter note, there were a lot of people today wearing purple and I am so glad for it. Even though it was not a UIS event, it spread through UIS students and I saw many going along with  wear purple day! It showed me that many people are worried about the same issues I am! In the pic above is me wearing my purple shirt! Also is a shot of the T.V. while the news was doing a report on wear purple day!
