Bake Sale!!

Alpha Phi Sigmas, the Criminal Justice National Honor Society, is having our final bake sale tomorrow in the PAC! The funds are going to support the babies program at Decatur Correctional Facility. The babies program allows mothers who are about to be let out of prison keep their babies up to 18 months in the correctional center so that they can establish the mother child bond. The program currently has a 0% recidivism rate, so it is a really good program!! Everyone should come to the PAC and buy some goodies to help support this program!

Today starts the last week of actual classes at UIS! Everyone is pretty excited about class almost being over! Next week is finals week and then summer break! Or for me, I graduate and start my new job :)! I am pretty excited about graduating. I wish it was here already! But I only have 12 more days! Exciting!!

Hope everyone has a great day and make sure to stop by the bake sale tomorrow! It is going to be a huge hit!

Bake sale!!

Our bake sale for walk a mile in her shoes was a complete success!! We raised over $700 for the cause! It is amazing that people are so willing to donate and help out for a good cause!! I am completely pleased with how much money we raised! Everyone did a great job baking and working the bake sale!

This day has been an exhausting one however. I am so excited to go to sleep! It is going to be an awesome sleep that is for sure! I am halfway through my busy week and I am already wanting it to be over! But I will make it!

On another note, 5 on 5 basketball went great last night! We lost both games but had a blast playing and got in a good workout! I also hit the first three pointer in my life last night during our first game! I was so excited! It was an awesome time and I can’t wait for our next game Sunday!

Goodnight everyone!!

Bake Sale Tomorrow!

This week is going to be one of my busiest weeks yet this semester! I have an appointment with career services at 3 today, I have the Alpha Phi Sigma bake sale at 10-4 on Tuesday, and Wednesday I have my personal trainer fitness assessment! Crazy! I am going to be glad once this week is over!

The bake sale is going to the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault for their annual event that they hold called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” It is for victims of sexual assault, and is going to be held April 16 in downtown Springfield. The psychology club is helping us out with this bake sale and when they hold a bake sale next month we will help them out. Hopefully we raise a lot of money for the event! I am so excited!

My career services appointment today could not have come at a better time because this morning at 4am I woke up worried about my future! I think I must have had a bad dream last night because I woke up in a very anxious mood. I hope it passes! I think that as soon as I find a job things will get better! Today at my appointment I am hoping that they will be able to help me find a job!

On a good note, 5 on 5 basketball starts tonight! We have two practice games tonight at 10 and 10:30. Hopefully we win, but it is going to be a good exercise regardless! Wish us luck~!

Busy Busy Busy!

Well as you all know, I am the president of Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice National Honor Society here at UIS. And we are planning another bake sale to help support the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Event that supports the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. We have also learned that the psychology department here at UIS wants to help us raise money for this event! So right now I am trying to coordinate meeting with the psychology department along with setting the event it self up! It is keeping me extra busy!

In other news, my first week back at UIS was a complete success. I am pretty sure I am going to love all my classes, which is good since I graduate at the end of this semester! I am super excited about graduating but I know that I am going to miss the college life once I do graduate!

I am going to try to do some video interviews of different offices and students here at UIS this semester so that you can get a real taste of what UIS is like! If you have anything in particular that you want me to do, please let me know! Catch everyone later!

Presentation and Bake Sale!

Last night was my senior seminar presentation! It went amazing! I felt so confident and good, and I knew what I was talking about! One of my professors told me today that I did the best! I was so excited! He told me that he could tell I knew what I was talking about and that I answered all the questions perfectly! I was so proud! My cousin who graduated from UIS in 2007 came and watched my presentation and said it was awesome! I was so glad she came! She said coming back to UIS made her miss going to school there! Hopefully she will come back and finish her Masters!

Today was the bake sale! It was a long and hectic day! We started our day at 9:30 and we were not finished until 5:30. Who would of guessed a bake sale was so much work! Lindzee, the secretary, and I were the only ones that worked it all day! It was miserable! I wish we would of had more workers but we made it through! Alex did stop by when he dropped his goodies off and helped for a while but besides that we did everything! We got a lot of compliments though! A lot of people were so impressed by us having a popcorn machine at the bake sale! They said it was a good marketing strategy! They were also impressed with how much food we had and how elaborate our bake sale was! I was so excited to hear all these raving reviews about our bake sale! It was a lot of hard work to get it together!

In all we made $478.16, which is amazing! Last year they made a total of $450, which means we beat them! And last year they had a lot more help than Lindzee and I did! So I am quite excited that we did such an amazing job! It was great! And it goes to such an amazing cause! The Brian McMillian Scholarship goes to a criminal justice student who deserves it!

I have finished two of my classes for the semester! I am so excited for break to start! It is going to be amazing to have some time off!

Update on Life…

Well, the countdown has begun… 25 days until Christmas. I am so not ready for this at all. I am not a big fan of snow or the cold, so Christmas just comes at the wrong time of the year for me! It stinks that it is so cold! We had our first snow of the season last night.. Which is exciting to some but not to me! I hate the cold!

Speaking of last night, our sister school, University of Illinois at Champaign, beat North Carolina in their basketball game against them last night. I went to Buffalo Wild Wings last night with a few friends to watch the game! It was a very exciting game and I am very glad that I got to watch it. Hopefully the Illini will do super good this year and make it to the final four again! They were in the championship game in 2005 and lost to North Carolina, so the win last night was definitely a nice one!

I did not get to work out last night, since I went and watched the Illini game, but I am definitely going tonight. I made sure that I did not take the elevator at all yesterday or today, and have taken the stairs every time! I am quite proud of myself. Today I have to work on stuff for Alpha Phi Sigma and we have to make posters tonight at 5:30 for our bake sale, so I will definitely be on campus tonight so that I can go work out!

The next home game for UIS Mens Basketball is December 18, which seems like it is far away but will be here before we know it! Hopefully since school will be out I will have time to go to some of the Men’s games here! Go Prairie Stars! Luckily the women have their next home game the same day, so I might be able to go see both teams play!

Well that is all that I have for right now! Remember that the Criminal Justice National Honor Society Bake Sale is next Tuesday from 11am to 1pm! So if you are on campus we will be in the PAC building! See you soon!

Heyy Everyone!
Today I had my first meeting as being president of Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice National Honor Society! It was a lot of information about how to run a student organization and the rules and guidelines! After the meeting, the vice president and secretary and I got together and did some talking about the organization! One thing that our organization raises money for is the Brian McMillian scholarship. Brian McMillian was a graduate of UIS and a Illinois State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty. We now give a scholarship to a student in name of him! We want to raise a lot of money this year so that maybe we can give more than one scholarship in name of Brian McMillian! Only problem is, we do not have a lot of member since it is an invite only club, and we do not have any good ideas for fundraising!
So I ask you, what are some fundraisers you may have done in the past? What fundraisers have you done that have been super successful, or even ones that weren’t that successful? We will take any ideas that we get! Also if we do set up fundraisers, we would love if people who are not involved in our organization to help out! It is for a good cause and the more the merrier!

So if you have any fundraising ideas, please comment on this and let me know what your thinking!! Thanks!
